Clinton Public Library is a WI-FI hotspot!
- A hot spot is a place where you can find a wireless connection to the Internet. Most hot spots are open connections, meaning all are welcome to use them to gain access to the Internet.
How do I use wireless at the library?
You may bring your own laptop into the library. It will need to have a built-in Wi-Fi or you will need to install a Wi-Fi network card. The Library doesn't not provide wireless cards. Most newer laptops already come with the capability to use wireless either through the laptop manufacture or by using windows wireless configuration.
Most Wi-Fi equipment will be compatible; however, the library can make no guarantees as to the compatibility of your equipment with the library's network.
Since I'm using my own equipment, do the general rules about computer use still apply to me?
Yes, you still must abide by the Clinton Public Library Internet Access Policy. Any activities deemed illegal apply to you whether or not you are on a Library-owned computer or your own computer. any illegal activity will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Also, sites that are blocked on the desktops are still blocked on your private computers.
Can the library staff help me configure my equipment?
No - everyone's computer is different, varying from manufacturer to manufacturer. You are responsible for knowing how to configure your own equipment.
The Clinton Public Library cannot be responsible for any changes you make to your computer's settings.
What about virus protection and security?
It is solely the responsibility of the wireless device owner/user to provide anti-virus protection, and to configure their laptop/PD settings to provide the appropriate security settings to control access from other wireless devices within the Library and the Internet itself. The Library cannot and will not take responsibility for damages incurred for incorrect, insufficient or incomplete security settings; or lack of adequate or up-to date virus protection. Wireless users assume all risk in this regard.
